Saturday night July 2, at 5:30pm marks the next night for the 2005
Ventura Raceway/VRA season, at its home track at the Ventura County
Fairgrounds/Seaside Park, located just off the 101 Freeway in Ventura.
Saturday’s action will include four of VRA’s top classes: VRA 360
Sprint Cars, VRA Senior Sprint Cars, VRA Dwarf Cars and IMCA Modifieds.
Point leader Chris Wakim, in Sprint Cars and Wiley Miller, in Senior
Sprints will be there.
Also competing Saturday night will be IMCA point’s leaders Donald
Houghton and VRA Dwarf Car point leaders Brian Saxton and Mike Sweeney.
VRA
Sprint Cars will headline the night of racing with a full program of heat races
and a twenty cars, 30-lap main event.
Drivers scheduled to compete include, last race winner Greg Taylor, Luis
Espinoza, Kevin Kierce, Steve Conrad, Rob Kershaw, point leader Chris Wakim,
Blake Miller, Joe Henderson and a host of other fine drivers.
These open wheeled, V 8 powered, cars are the fastest VRA Cars that race
at Ventura Raceway hitting speeds in excess of seventy miles per hour down the
short front and backstretches.
Close hard fought racing is the rule not the exception every night they
race.
VRA
Senior Sprints are back in action after a race two weeks ago that saw Richard
McCormick take the win in the #55 car.
He will be back to go for two in a row against point leader Wiley Miller
and a host of over 45 year old senior sprint drivers.
IMCA
Modifieds are V8 powered modifieds that are always crowd favorites.
Top IMCA Modified drivers include Point leader Donald Houghton, last race
winner Randy McGraw, Will Smith and Brad Prows.
The
final group racing on Saturday is the popular VRA Dwarf Cars. These downsized
sedans always put on crowd-pleasing performances whenever they race at Ventura.
Pro point leader Brian Saxton leads that class into Saturday’s 20-lap
main event while Mike Sweeney leads the Seniors.
Both drivers took feature wins on the last night they raced, June 18. All
the top dwarf car drivers are scheduled to be there on Saturday night.
Racing
gets under way with warm-ups at 4:00pm with racing starting at 5:30pm.
Front gates open at 4:00pm with general admission seating throughout the
grandstands. Admission
prices are: $14.00 for adults, $11.00 for seniors/juniors with photo id and
military, $5.00 for kids 7-12 and kids 6 and under FREE.
