(Oxnard, CA., 6/1/05)
Saturday night June 4, at 5:30pm marks the next night for the 2005
Ventura Raceway/VRA season, at its home track at the Ventura County
Fairgrounds/Seaside Park, located just off the 101 Freeway in Ventura.
With all the top drivers from the past weeks racing coming back Saturday
night, the outlook for outstanding racing action this week is highly
anticipated.
Saturday’s action will
include four of Ventura Raceway’s top classes: VRA 360 Sprint Cars, VRA Senior
Sprints, IMCA Modifieds and VRA Dwarf Cars. Last race winners Chris Wakim in VRA
Sprints, Donald Houghton in IMCA Modifieds, Mike Sweeney and Brian Saxton in VRA
Dwarf Cars and Wiley Miller in VRA Senior Sprints will all be back to take the
challenge in their respective divisions
VRA Sprint Cars will
headline the night of racing with a full program of heat races and a twenty car,
30 lap main event.
Drivers scheduled to compete include Kevin Kierce, Luis Espinoza, Bill
Welch, Steve Conrad, Rob Kershaw, Chris Wakim, Blake Miller, Joe Henderson and a
host of other fine drivers.
These open wheeled, V 8 powered, cars are the fastest VRA Cars that race
at Ventura Raceway hitting speeds in excess of seventy miles per hour down the
short front and back stretches.
Close hard fought racing is the rule not the exception every night they
race. Wakim is currently the VRA Point leader and he is hoping to continue to
stay out front and claim his first VRA championship at the end of the season.
VRA Senior Sprints will
be back.
Wiley Miller will try to take up the action from where he left off with a
win last race.
His win showed the field that he is back in top form after his 2002 and
2004 series championships.
All the top VRA Senior Sprint car drivers will be trying to see that he
doesn’t continue to dominate action in 2005.
Last race 20 Senior Sprints were in attendance.
We anticipate at least that many will be back tonight.
VRA Dwarf Cars will be
back this weekend after a short layoff for the Memorial Day Holiday weekend.
Last race winners Mike Sweeney and Brian Saxton will be back to go for
two in a row in Senior and Pro competition.
The final group racing
Saturday night is the IMCA Modified Division.
These open wheeled stock cars always put on a program of great racing.
Donald Houghton is the current point leader and is coming off a win at
the last event that they ran on May 21.
Racing gets under way
with warm-ups at 4:00pm with racing starting at 5:30pm.
Front gates open at 4:00pm with general admission seating throughout the
grandstands.
Admission prices are: $14.00 for adults, $11.00 for seniors/military and
