(Oxnard,
CA., 5/10/2005) Saturday
night May 14, at 5:00pm marks the next night for the 2005 Ventura Raceway/VRA
season, at its home track at the Ventura County Fairgrounds/Seaside Park,
located just off the 101 Freeway in Ventura. With all the top drivers from the
past weeks racing coming back Saturday night, the outlook for outstanding racing
action this week is highly anticipated.
Saturday’s action will include four of VRA’s top classes: VRA 360 Sprint
Cars, VRA Senior Sprints, VRA Modifieds and VRA Pony Stocks. Last race winners
Chris Wakim in VRA Sprints, Ric Bronson in VRA Modifieds, Mike Frazier in Pony
Stocks and Wiley Miller in VRA Senior Sprints will also be there to go for two
wins in a row.
VRA Sprint Cars will headline the night of racing with a full program of heat
races and a twenty car, 30 lap main event. Drivers scheduled to compete include,
Kevin Kierce, Luis Espinoza, Bill Welch, Steve Conrad, Rob Kershaw, Chris Wakim,
Blake Miller, Joe Henderson and a host of other fine drivers. These open
wheeled, V 8 powered, cars are the fastest VRA Cars that race at Ventura Raceway
hitting speeds in excess of seventy miles per hour down the short front and back
stretches. Close hard fought racing is the rule not the exception every night
they race. Last race, Chris Wakim and Tom Stansberry raced hard to the checker
with Wakim taking his first win of the 2005 season.
VRA Senior Sprints will be back. Wiley Miller will try to take up the action
from where he left off with a win last week. His win showed the field that he is
back in top form after his 2002 and 2004 series championships. All the top VRA
Senior Sprint car drivers will be trying to see that he doesn’t make it two in
a row. Last race 18 Senior Sprints were in attendance. We anticipate at least
that many will be back tonight.
VRA Pony Stocks will be back this weekend after a short layoff. Point leader
Mike Frazier will lead the rest of the cars to the green flag. He is coming off
a win in the last Pony stock race in April. All the rest of the top Pony Stock
racers will be there to try to keep him form scoring another win and increasing
his point’s lead.
The final group racing Saturday night is the VRA Modifieds. Tom Morley has two
wins to his credit so far in 2005 and leads the point’s race. Last race Ric
Bronson came back from some time off to take the win in their 20-lap feature.
Racing gets under way with warm-ups at 4:00pm with racing starting at 5:00pm.
Front gates open at 4:00pm with general admission seating throughout the
grandstands. Admission prices are: $14.00 for adults, $11.00 for
