(Oxnard, CA 5/03/05) Ventura Raceway is holding a
very special event this Saturday night May 7 at 5:30pm. Saturday we feature for
the first time in 2005 the USAC/CRA 410 Sprint Car Series. These ultimate high
performance sprint cars will keep you glued to the edge of your seats as they
hit speeds approaching 90mph around Ventura’s short 1/5-mile clay oval. All
the top stars in this division will be there Saturday to make sure that the
battle for the 2005 series crown continues. 2004 series champion Rip Williams is
coming off his 100th career win a couple of weeks ago. Last week at Perris Auto
Speedway, Damion Gardner came from last spot in the field to pass Cory Kruseman
for the win. Kruseman, a Ventura favorite, has three VRA 360 series wins here
already this season. Also scheduled to appear are all time USAC/CRA 410 win
leader at Ventura, Mike Kirby, Rickie Gaunt, Charles Davis Jr., Jimmy Crawford,
and a host of other outstanding drivers. Several of our regular VRA 360 drivers
have also indicated that they will come out Saturday night to challenge the USAC
drivers. If you have never seen USAC/CRA 410 Sprints at Ventura, it is a night
you will long remember as they blast around the short banked track, lap after
lap.
Also on the card Saturday are the VRA 360 Senior Sprint drivers. Wiley Miller
holds the current point lead over Ron Bach, Bob Alderman, Tim Moon and John
Woodward. Alderman scored his first ever VRA win last Saturday night in the
accident-shortened feature. He will be there Saturday night to go for two in a
row. This class is a growing class for drivers over the age of 45. They compete
in the same 360 cars that the regular VRA drivers do and night after night they
provide some of the best racing seen here at Ventura. This class features two
father son competitors. Ron Butler and Brett Butler and John Richards and Curtis
Richards compete against each other on a regular basis in this division. This is
a rather amazing fete, as you have to consider that the sons have to be 45 or
over to compete against their dads.
For more information, please call Ventura Raceway at (805) 985-5433 Monday
through Friday from 8am-5pm. On Raceday please call (805) 648-RACE. Pits open at
1:00pm on Saturday with front gates opening at 4:00pm. USAC/CRA qualifying will
take place at 5:00pm followed by heat races, semi mains and feature events.
Admission for this special event is $18.00 for adults, $15.00 for
seniors/military and juniors with a valid school id, $7.00 for children 7-12
with kids 6 and under FREE.
