(Oxnard, CA., 4/27/2005) Saturday night April 30, at
5:00pm marks the next night for the 2005 Ventura Raceway/VRA season, at its home
track at the Ventura County Fairgrounds/Seaside Park, located just off the 101
Freeway in Ventura. With all the top drivers coming back Saturday night, the
outlook for outstanding racing action this week is highly anticipated.
Saturday’s action will include three of VRA’s top classes: VRA 360 Sprint
Cars, VRA Senior Sprints and VRA Modifieds. Additionally, the USAC Ford Focus
Midgets will return as well. VRA Sprint Car point Blake Miller, Willey Miller in
VRA Senior Sprints, Tom Morley in VRA Modifieds will all be there to go for wins
in these exciting racing divisions.
VRA Sprint Cars will headline the night of racing with a full program of heat
races and a twenty car, 30 lap main event. Drivers scheduled to compete include,
Kevin Kierce, Bill Welch, Steve Conrad, Rob Kershaw, Chris Wakim, Blake Miller,
Chris Tramel, Joe Henderson and a host of other fine drivers. These open
wheeled, V 8 powered, cars are the fastest VRA Cars that race at Ventura Raceway
hitting speeds in excess of seventy miles per hour down the short front and back
stretches. Close hard fought racing is the rule not the exception every night
they race.
VRA Senior Sprints will be back. Steve Stasa will try to take up the action from
where he left off with a win in their last race. All the top VRA Senior Sprint
car drivers will be trying to see that he doesn’t make it two in a row. Last
race 22 Senior Sprints were in attendance. We anticipate at least that many will
be back tonight.
Also racing tonight is the VRA Modifieds. Tom Morley took the win opening night
and the last time they raced. Dave Lidren, Austin Rodarte, Marty McLaughlin and
all the rest of the drivers in this competitive class will be trying to close in
on Morley’s season points lead.
The final group racing with us is the USAC Ford Focus Midgets. These self
starting Ford Focus powered full sized midgets always put on a great night of
racing when they come to Ventura. Last week Alex Harris took the win. He will be
here tonight to go for two in a row.
Racing gets under way with warm-ups at 4:00pm with racing starting at 5:00pm.
Front gates open at 4:00pm with general admission seating throughout the
grandstands. Admission prices are: $14.00 for adults, $11.00 for seniors/juniors
