Ventura
Raceway is proud to host a very special program this Saturday night April 23. On
that night the USAC Midgets, VRA Sprint Cars and USAC Ford Focus Midgets will be
in action on Ventura Raceway’s 1/5 mile Ventura Raceway clay, banked,
bullring. It is sure that they will stage a night of racing that those in
attendance will long remember. The event will begin at 5pm at Ventura
Raceway’s Seaside Park facility at the Ventura County Fairgrounds with
qualifying of the USAC Midgets. These cars are capable of hitting speeds in
excess of 80 mph on the short straights.
All the top USAC Western States Midget drivers will be here Saturday night along
with several USAC/CRA Sprint Car drivers who will challenge them. Ventura
favorite Cory Kruseman will be there in the same midget car he ran at the 2004
Chili Bowl for Andy Bondio. There to challenge him will be Damion Gardner in
NHRA Star and former Funny Car Champion, Cruz Pedregon’s Advanced Auto Parts
midget. The regular USAC Midget stars will be led by point leader Robbie Flock
who won his fiftieth feature last week at Bakersfield, all time favorite Wally
Pankratz who is in his farewell tour of his midget competition, and the rest of
the outstanding drivers that make up this division. These cars feature an
awesome power to weight ratio that produces some of the most exciting racing to
be seen anywhere on dirt.
The USAC Ford Focus Series makes its first 2005 appearance at Ventura Saturday
night. This series is designed to give up and coming drivers a chance to race
and develop their skills before they move up to the Midget series. Point leader
Bobby Michnowicz, 2004 champion Chris Rahe and Chase Barber will lead the field
to Ventura for this exciting night of racing. These self starting cars are
powered by Ford Focus motors placed in a full midget chassis.
The last group racing on Saturday night is the VRA 360 Sprint Cars. With over 35
cars expected, this class will also show the fans why racing at Ventura is
considered some of the best anywhere. Last weeks winner Luis Espinoza will be
back to go for two in a row against some of the best 360 sprint car drivers in
the US. Point leader Blake Miller will try to stay out front in this highly
competitive division. Cory Kruseman is also expected to go for his third VRA win
in 2005 on Saturday night.
Ventura Raceway will open the front gates for this event at 4:00pm Saturday
afternoon. Cars will be going on the track in warm-up sessions at 4:00pm with
midget qualifying to follow at 5:00pm. Racing is scheduled to get under way at
6:00pm. Admission for this event is $14.00 for adults, $11.00 for
