(Oxnard, CA...1/17/05) Ventura Racing Association (VRA) 360 Sprints and
the Bandit 360 Sprint Car Series are proud to announce the four race Bandit/VRA
Grand Slam Series. This first ever four race series featuring the stars of
Ventura Raceway’s VRA 360 series, Kings Speedway’s Bandit 360 Series and the
Bandit stars of Santa Maria Speedway racing head to head in all out competition.
This series has come together after many meetings to allow drivers from each of
these successful series to showcase their talents to the many fans from the
Hanford, Bakersfield, Santa Maria, Ventura and other California regions. Drivers
will be able to enter each event under a common set of rules that will allow
these hard charging drivers to compete for the first time on an even playing
field.
The four race series will begin on Saturday June 18th at Kings Speedway, then
move to Santa Maria Speedway on August 6th, Bakersfield Speedway on August 20th
and culminate with a two-day sprint car spectacular on Friday September 2-3 at
Ventura Raceway. Each race will feature a purse that will pay $2,000 to win and
$200 to start the twenty-two car feature field. Pit pass fees will be
standardized for all four races at $30.00 for members of the competing
organizations.
This series came together at the 2004 RPM Convention in Reno, Nevada, when
representatives of these tracks and sanctioning bodies decided it was time to
put the best of California’s 360 drivers in competition with each other in a
special four race series, featuring the four tracks where these cars have run
the past several years. Muffler and tire issues were worked out so that all cars
will compete under a common set of rules that will allow the teams to race the
series or other events during the year at VRA or Bandit localities when they can
without having to make several changes to their cars.
The possibilities for the upcoming series are very exciting to all competitors,
fans and officials who have learned of its taking place. For many seasons,
drivers from the different series have competed with each other on a limited
basis. Now there can be the full-bore competition that has been missing. Series
champions and competitors from each group can now lay claim to which series has
the best cars and stars. What will prove to be is that there are many
outstanding teams, drivers and cars in both sanctions. This new series will only
give them the opportunity for tight, hard fought, 360 Sprint Car competition on
four of the West’s most exciting racetracks.
For more information on this upcoming, exciting series of races, please contact
any of the tracks that are holding these events. Keep watching for further
releases as the series dates approach. Ventura Raceway (805) 985-5433, Kings
Speedway (559) 582-3478 Santa Maria Speedway (805) 466-4462 and Bakersfield
Speedway (661) 393-3373.
