2 EARL'S RACES TIGHTEN

October 10, 2005...The battle for the 2005 Earl's Fast Qualifier Championships in USAC's Western Sprint Car and National Midget Car Series tightened over the weekend, while Tate Martz completed his championship in the Midwest Focus FQ standings.

Michael Lewis' lead in the National Midget FQ points is down to just six over Josh Wise and Jerry Coons Jr. going into the Nov. 24 series finale at Irwindale, Calif, while Tony Hunt's lead in the Western Sprints is now just two over Kody Swanson going into that series finale at Irwindale Nov. 24.

Top Earl's point scorers in USAC action last week included Bryan Clauson (National Midgets), Cory Kruseman (CRA Sprint Cars), Michael Lewis (Western Sprint Cars), Jace Meier (California Focuses) and James Robertson (Midwest Focuses).

Earl's points will be up for grabs this week in races at Charlotte, N.C. and Winchester, Ind. (National Sprints), Ventura, Calif. (Western Midgets) and Elkin, N.C. (Carolina/Virginia Focuses).

Points are awarded at each USAC event based on an international system awarding the top-six qualifiers with points in the following scale: 1st-9, 2nd-6, 3rd-4, 4th-3, 5th-2, 6th-1. When qualifying is not held for Ford Focus events, points are awarded based on a system of lineup points earned in the preliminary heats.

Each USAC National, Western and Ford Focus Midget Car Earl's Plumbing FQ Champion will be honored at USAC's Champions Night ceremony in Indianapolis. The National and Western FQ champs will receive $5,000 each, while the Ford Focus FQ champs will each receive $1,000.
