(JANUARY 10, 2005) The 2005 USAC National racing
schedule kicks off January 29-30 with the 28th "Copper World Classic"
at Phoenix (Ariz.) International Raceway and is targeted for a late-November
conclusion. The preliminary National schedules released today include old and
new venues and numerous "traditional" races as USAC's enters its
Golden Anniversary season, expected to be its most ambitious ever in terms of
total events.
The National and Western Midget Car Series combine for the "Copper
World" opener, while the Valvoline USAC National Sprint Cars make their
2005 debut at Tony Stewart's Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio.
The National Midget calendar again includes traditional races like the Copper
World, Night Before the 500, Buckeye Nationals, Belleville Midget Nationals, Hut
Hundred, Four Crown Nationals and Turkey Night Grand Prix, while the Sprint Car
slate includes the Don-Branson/Jud Larson Classic, Glen Niebel Classic, Rich
Vogler Classic, Border Wars, Tony Hulman Classic, Little 500, Buckeye Nationals,
Valvoline Indiana Sprint Week,
Mopar Thunder, Joe James/Pat O'Connor Classic, Four Crown Nationals, Perris Oval
Nationals and Western World Open.
New to the 2005 Midget schedule are the National Midget Hall of Fame Classic in
Sun Prairie, Wisc. August 27, as well as a return to the Lawrenceburg (Ind.)
Speedway and Mansfield (Ohio) Motorsports Park. The Sprint Cars will return to
the Winchester (Ind.) Speedway, Mansfield (Ohio) Motorsports Park and Lake Erie
Speedway in North East, Pa. as well as visiting the famed Milwaukee Mile on
August 27.
The 2005 schedules are continuing to be finalized and are subject to additions
or changes as the season progresses.
