Marysville, CA - July 3, 2005...Jeremy Hawes, Mike Monahan, Ken Reische
and Kenny Robinson won their respective feature events at Twin Cities Speedway
Saturday night.
Marysville’s Jeremy Hawes
scored his first ever feature event victory in the Hunt Magneto Speedway Sprint
Car Series. Hawes made a series of great moves to put veteran drivers in his
wake. The rookie sensation put a ford powered sprint car into victory lane for
the first time at TCS as well.
The race looked like it would
be another easy run for Dr. David Goodwill as he had an up front starting berth
with Antioch Speedway Sprint car champion Bob Newberry. As expected the two
veterans diced for the lead in a stirring early race duel. Hawes found third and
didn’t seem to have enough to challenge the two up front. Newberry nipped past
Goodwill only to be re-passed again by the Doc. The race came to a grinding halt
after the first seven circuits when Blane Varner and Charlie Marrs got together
in turn one. Varner’s car took to the air in a series of barrel rolls that
left the rookie contender dazed but unscathed.
The break seemed to help Hawes
the most. He was a rocket on the heels of Goodwill and Newberry. He started to
close rapidly. The trio hooked up in the best race of the season and the fans
roared their approval. Newberry repassed Goodwill. When the Doc attempted to
re-pass again the pair bumped wheels and they both were out of shape enough to
allow Hawes and a fast closing Steve Stein to challenge. Hawes fired his mount
into a great fight with Goodwill and Hawes was soon past and headed for
Newberry. In a brilliant high side pass Hawes flew into a lead he would never
relinquish. It was a great drive by the fast rising young star. Stein soldiered
into second with the Doc settling for third. Newberry faded to fifth when he
nearly parked it in a vain attempt to get back in the fight.
Marysville’s Kenny Robinson
parlayed a front row start into his first win of the season in the Riebes Racing
Series stock car main event. Robinson held off a fast closing Jake Cavasos and
Andy Aust to take the victory. Rookie contender Brad Magenheimer of Tudor had
this one in the bag until a turn three miscue allowed a number of combatants to
pass on by. In a remarkably trouble free main event the top three stayed close
through the entire race. Jeremy Blackshere and George Magenheimer rounded out
the top five in the very competitive event.
Sparks Nevada’s Mike Monahan
went flag to flag virtually unchallenged in the Riebes Racing Series Pacific
Sprint Car feature event. Monahan gunned his familiar blue racer into the lead
at the start and endured a number of restart challenges to pick up his first win
of the year. The 2004 champion never saw anybody though point leader Brent
Dothage almost got there. Dothage was moving all night long, got to second and
simply could not close on “the
madman”. Kevin Lovell ran a credible third in the rapid-fire event. Steve
Watts and two-time champ Mike Wasina came in fifth.
Championship contender Korey
Lovell spun out early and spent the rest of the race working back to sixth in a
notable run back into contention.
Yuba City’s Ken Reische must
be living right. But tonight he'd have to settle for second. As the white flag
flew, race long leader Robert Luster sailed into turn one and second running
Reische simply was not going to be able to contest the lead. In fifty yards the
entire complexion of the race changed. Luster’s dominant white ride flew off
of the turn one banking with three-quarters of a lap to go and came to a stop.
Reische had to be the most surprised guy in the place when the checkers were
thrown his way.
Luster was very animated when
he exited his car. He had simply been dominant and surely was headed for a well
deserved victory. James Gillaspie was a tiger all night and finished in second
followed by Jamey Ollar, Shane Stoker and a fast improving James Foster. Foster
came from last to fifth after early race problems sent him to the back of the
field.
This Saturday night the
California Sprint Car Civil War Series will bring their competitive brand of
motorsport to TCS. Top stars from all over northern California will race in the
prestigious event. Gates open at 5 with racing at 7PM at the one and only Twin
Cities Speedway. Twin Cities Speedway
is located at 1468 Simpson Lane in Marysville. For additional information call
