Marysville, CA - June 26, 2005...Napa Valley dentist Dr. David Goodwill
beat 3-time national USAC champion Jimmy Sills to the line in a thrilling Hunt
Speedway Sprint Car main event Saturday night at Twin Cities Speedway. Sills was
the pole sitter and Goodwill was mired toward the rear at the start. Sills shot
into an early lead over Jeremy Hawes and Blaine Varner. Goodwill made sharp
early moves that got him to fourth quickly.
Sills was in control and was
beginning to pull away when he overshot turn three and most of the field passed
by. Two laps later Sills went over the top in turn one and found himself in the
back. Hawes took advantage, secured the lead and stretched it to a full
straightaway. Goodwill continued to pick off cars and found second behind Hawes.
A long green flag segment kept
the field well behind Hawes and allowed Sills to pick off cars at and
extraordinary rate. Sills rocketed by the entire field; save Hawes and Goodwill
by half way. Then, with the race at the three quarters mark, point leader Steve
Stein and Grass Valley’s Jay Youngman tangled in turn four and the yellow flag
bunched the field for a final dash to the finish.
Goodwill and Sills camped on
Hawes’ yellow and red Ford powered racer. The final few laps saw Goodwill nip
by Hawes with a slick inside move in turn three. Sills got by Hawes two laps
later with a high-side pass out of four. Sills then closed the gap on Goodwill
and the pair dueled to the finish with Goodwill taking the checkers and Sills
banging on the door just behind. The race ended with visiting driver Daryl Moore
and Yuba City’s Charlie Marrs in tow. Local drivers Hawes, of Marysville, and
Marrs made nice jumps in the point standings when the point leader,
Vacaville’s Stein, had his problems in the feature.
Kelseyville’s
Brian Gard won the BCRA Midget feature after a stirring duel with point leader
Thomas Messeraul. Doug Hunting won the BCRA Midget Lite finale after leaders
Tyler Franklin and Scott Kinney crashed while contesting the lead. Additional
information on the BCRA races is available at bcraracing.com. Reno
Nevada’s Tom Goepner won the SORA Sprint 100 feature by a half car length over
Kerry McColloch in the closest finish of the night. Additional information on
the SORA race is available at sprint100.com.
This Saturday night the four
primary divisions will invade the Marysville clay. The Riebes Racing Series
Winged Pacific Sprint Cars and Stock Cars will join the Hunt Magneto Wingless
Warriors and the TCS Mini Stocks in a slam-bang affair. The first Buck-a-Beer
night promotion will be featured. If a designated racer finishes in a position
picked prior to the event, a beer (or bottled water) will be available for ten
minutes after the event concludes for only $1. Other promotions are in the works
at TCS will include additional racing events during the 2005 season. Track
operators Linda and Greg Kearns are determined to make Twin Cities Speedway a
fun and exciting place to visit.
