| Johnny Herrera Wins Southwest Sprint Car event at Thunder Raceway August 26th & 27th in Show Low, Arizona! |

August 31, 2005...
Johnny Herrera put on a drivers clinic in Friday nights qualifying run by
qualifying first to win a20m Goodyear right rear, the Goodyear top Qualifying
Award. Herrera then went on to win the first of two Dash for Cash six car
six lap Shootouts prior to the new format which also included a practice
session for Saturday's Sprint Car Thunder! Ron Clark from Tucson, Arizona
finished a close second in the Joe Morales sprinter, and Jon Taylor won
the second dash beating out team-mate Jason Tanner in the Bill Richard
sprinters with the crowd standing on it's feet!
Saturday's Shootout started with Ron Clark winning the first heat race with
Herrera racing to a close second looking for Clark to make that little
mistake or burp in turn three & four! Jon Taylor won the second
heat but again Jason Tanner and including Robert Hall Jr. made him work all 10
laps for the win! Heat three Bo Baker from Grants New Mexico edged
out Ricky Hood from Phoenix, Arizona.
Main Event action heated up when Ricky Hood starting from a tail-end
starting spot and caught Herrera on the 20th lap. Hood worked Herrera for the
remaining 10 with every trick he new in a nonwing sprinter, put just couldn't
get that break and again the crowd was on their feet watching Herrera, Hood,
Tanner, and Clark work through the lapped traffic on the closing laps. Tanner
and Clark were closing in on Herrera and Hood on the final laps which made it
a 4 car shootout for the win! Herrera took the win with race promoter Bob
Livingston stating that ,"that was the best action sprint car main event
in the history of the track since he has been associated with Thunder
Raceway"! Ricky Hood earned the a20m Goodyear right rear tire from
the Goodyear Hard Charger Award, awarded by the Sprint Car racing league.
