The Southwest Sprint Car Series has adopted the 32 car race format similiar to
other race organizations to accomodate the the larger car counts. "Our
car counts have been pretty good in our last few shows, but race management
has had it's tribulations", say's Hal Burns race Director for
the Southwest series!
Basically race management will start with qualifying like they
normally do, but they will line up only 4 heat race with a six car
inverts. If they have more than 32 cars, and the cars that qualify
slower than 32nd, they will tag the heat races up to 8 cars. Then when 40
cars or more show-up they will run a C-main that would actually race
before the heat races, and the top four finishers in the C-main will also tag
the heat races.
The 4 top finishers in the heat races will be given their time back for their
locked-in starting spot for the A- feature, and then the 4 top finishers from
the B-main will start from the 17th spot in the A-main based off of their
qualifying time!
"The new format looks like it will make for a pretty good show for
the fans, and it appears like time management could be better",
commented Burns.
New entry's into Sprint Car Thunder at Show Low, Arizona will be Jon
Taylor from Albuquerque, New Mexico's NMMRA Champion from 2004, and
Ron Clark from Tucson, Arizona driving the Morales Sprinter also from Tucson.
Clark will be trying to hold his number three spot in the series points
from fourth place Taylor and fith place Jason Tanner, seven points
seperate the three drivers from third to fith.
