June 15, 2005...The Southwest Sprint Car Series will continue it's quest for it's season
closing event in Hawaii on November Thanksgiving weekend by bringing Sprint
Car Thunder to Thunder Raceway in Show Low, Arizona on Saturday June 25th. The
top 8 sprint cars in the Series will get an invitation to race in the Hawaii
Challenge Race!
Thunder Raceway's 1/4 mi. dirt has not seen sprint car action this year in
the White Mountians of Northern Arizona, this will be the first race at
Thunder for the Southwest Series in 2 years. Rick Ziehl of Las Cruces ,
New Mexico the current points leader will be there to defend his lead. Ziehl
also won the 2003 Southwest Sprint Car Series Championship and leads the
competition in Southwest Main Event wins with 11.
Jason Tanner from Albuquerque, New Mexico won the first Southwest Main Event
this year in Las Cruces, New Mexico and came off of a good run at the
Aloha Shootout at USA Race Park in Tucson , Arizona finishing 4th coming from
the 8th row. Tanner will be a serious contender for the main event win and has
set his sight on winning the 2005 Southwest Championship running now in a
tight race at fourth, behind 3rd place Ron Clark from Tucson, Arizona!
Racing action will start at 7:15 PM, cool White Mountian standard time on
Saturday June 25th, pit gate opens at 3:00 PM.
