Dejevu, the Aloha Shootout being rained out on Saturday night was the
same thing that happened to the first Southwest Sprint Car Series event that
ran at Hawaii Motor Speedway in Hawaii. The rain-out created
traveling delays for the participants in 2003 similar to what the Hawaiian's
are expierencing now.
The unusual Memorial weekend storm blew in late Saturday afternoon to
created a great surface for the typically hot dry slick conditions that
normally occur on Arizona dirt tracks during the summer. The second wave
of rain that occured right at race time was the straw that broke the
camels back. After that cloud burst, there was an attempt to mud pack the
surface in but there was just to much moisture in the new clay surface.
" I was hoping that we could of ran the race even with the muddy surface
because in Hawaii we get these kind of nights alot with the Hawaiian drizzels
typical on the islands," Dennis Krob said (last years winner in
Hawaii.)
Shaun Ternora another Hawaiian sprint car racer, stated that
he was a little intimidated by the car count, but as the night went on he
felt less intimidated. "We race with the threat of rain in Hawaii a lot,
we have gotten use to heavy clay race conditions like last night," Ternora
also said.
The two day Aloha Shootout will resume racing tonight, pit gate will open
3:00 PM, front gate at 5:00, and racing will start at 7:00 PM. Last
nights event has been reschedules for Monday Memorial Day with the pit gate
opening at 1:00 PM, front gate at 3:00 PM, and racing at 5:00 PM.
