May 26, 2005...
The sprint car race teams from Hawaii arrived yesterday at Tucson,
Arizona's USA Race Park action packed king sized 3/8th dirt track! They toured
the new facility and met with track owner Pat Robley as they started
contemplating their strategy for the Memorial Weekend Aloha Shootout.
Most had already connected with their race cars in California, as they
were unloaded from a cargo ship or from a Pacific Air Cargo 747 cargo
airplane. Their comments were mostly about how nice the facility was
and how much bigger this track was compared to their 1/4 mile dirt track back
home in Hawaii!
They will get a chance today to fire-up their cars in today's open practice,
which starts at 6:00 PM when it starts getting a little cooler. A
three hour session is on slate for today and several race teams will be
making the long haul from New Mexico and Texas to get a little seat time for
the Shootout. Albuquerque's JasonTanner and Lubbock, Texas sprint car ace
Lieghton Couch will also take advantage of the practice time.
Yesterday Casey Minks Racing from El Paso, Texas announced that John
Carney Sr. and John Carney Jr. will also be entering the shootout in the
Minks famed race team. Carney Sr. has 10 Championships under his belt in
Texas and New Mexico and well over 75 Main Event wins in his 22 year
career. John Carney Jr. also has a 2003 Sprint Car Championship in El
Paso, Texas, as well over 15 Main Event Wins.
