May 9, 2005...Hawaiian's are coming by Boat and Airplane to USA Race Park
in Tucson, Az. The Hawaiian Challenge Sprint Car race was in Hawaii in November
of 2003 and 2004, but this year it will start at USA Race Park in Tucson,
Arizona on May 28th and 29th. USA Race Park will feature the Southwest Sprint
Car Series special event with seven comfirmed Sprint Car Teams making the boat
or 747 airplane ride from Hawaii.
Dean Freitas 2003 winner and last years Main Event winner Dennis Krob are on
the list of Hawaiin Hot Shoe's that are making their way to Tucson for the
inaugural USA Hawaiian challenge Race. Other Hawaiian's making the long haul
will be Rodney "Hot Rod" Capello, Albert Ternoro Jr., Brandon Ternoro,
Rocky "Quick" Silva, and Shawn Ternoro all from the Honolulu area are
comfirmed for the trip. Their are a few more race teams still to comfirm making
the trip to Tucson, car count from the main-land side is building strong.
Three teams are flying to LAX by Pacific Air Cargo in a 747 and the rest are
coming by a cargo ship to San Deigo, California. Truck and trailor
accommodations have been made to transport from California to Arizona.
The Southwest Sprint Car Series will return to Hawaii Motor Speedway taking
the top 8 teams in November during the Thankgiving Holidays." We are
working on making Honolulu, Hawaii and Tucson, Arizona sister racing cities in
the Southwest Sprint Car Series," says Hal Burns, Race Director for the
SCRL.
Jon Taylor from Albuquerque, New Mexico the MNMRA 2004 Champion, grandson of
the famous Buddy Taylor had the invite to Hawaii last year, but due to timing
couldn't make the 747 flight to Hawaii in 2004. This year he's working hard to
race for that invite again to Hawaii, Taylor is one of the up and coming young
guns who has entered from the mainland to challenge the Hawaiian's at this
inaugural event at USA.
