April 13, 2005...The Southwest Sprint Car Series Spring Shootout in Las
Cruces, NM.and EL Paso, Texas on April 23 and 24 is building speed with new
entries. Mike Martin from Yuma, Arizona Southwest Sprint Car Series main event
winner in Lubbock, Texas in 2003, will be heading to the Spring Shootout to try
and make that his second Main Event win.
Dave Burns from Santa Fe, NM. will also be on hand for a try for his first
Main Event win in the Southwest Series, but has also added another car to his
stable of cars and has put the driving responsibilities to James High from
Albuquerque, NM. James High has Main Event winning experience in his youth with
mini-sprints and now as an adult with SCOA winged sprints racing in New Mexico
and Arizona. Burns hopes that one of them will bring them their first Southwest
Main Event win for 2005. Burns also was awarded the Hank Arnold Sportsman award
for his contributions to the Sport and Southwest Sprint Car Series in 2003
awards banquet.
Another hard charger from the Land of Enchantment, Tim West from Albuquerque,
NM. will also be going for his second Main Event win in the Southwest Series.
West spun mid-way in a Main Event at Sertoma Speedway in 2003 at Tularosa, NM.
and came from the rear of the field using the high line to win the feature.
Shortly after that win West totaled that car on a wild flip on the back
straight-away at Duke City Raceway in Albuquerque, NM. leaving West with a short
vacation from sprint car racing.
