SANTA MARIA SPEEDWAY PRESS RELEASE
By Jim Pluhar

Santa Maria, CA - 6/25/05...Kerman's Davey Pombo jumped into the lead of the 30 lap Wild 106 FM/Bandit Sprint Car Series feature event and that was all it took to scored his first Santa Maria Speedway win of the season Saturday night. On the third lap Kevin Kierce, of Hollywood, blew his motor in ball of fire in the north turns. On lap 15 Wild 106 point leader Jimmy Reeves broke a part on the right front of his machine, collecting Evan Suggs. Suggs was able to continue but Reeves' repairs took 12 laps placing him 15th at the finish. Fresno's John Burnett brought out a yellow on the 17th circuit with a spin on the front chute. The final yellow flew on lap 25 with a turn 4 stall by Paso Robles driver Patrick Frisco. San Luis Obispo's Greg Porte dogged Pombo for most of the race to finish second. Third went to Santa Maria's Danny Sheridan, fourth to Santa Clarita's Clark Templeman III and fifth to Bakersfield's Rusty Carlile. Sheridan, Porte and Reeves won 8 lap heat races an Sheridan set fast time of 14.540 seconds.

Jerry Stewart, of Bakersfield, grabbed the early lead in the Century 21 Hometown Realty Late Model Stock 30 lapper, but couldn't hold off Mike Johnson of Clovis. Johnson slid by the early leader on the 18th circuit and pulled away for the victory. Stewart held off a tenacious Billy Griffin for second place and Vance Beltran and Devin Crockett finished fourth and fifth. Eight lap heat race wins went to Stewart, Johnson and Chet Buckley of Lompoc. Stewart was top qualifier with a lap of 15.705 seconds. Only two caution periods slowed the Late Model main, one on lap 6 when Buckley hit the back chute wall and the other on lap 15 when Arroyo Grande's Brian Stote spun exiting turn 2.

The KKFX Fox 11 Street Stock 25 lap feature was a wire-to-wire run for Rick Wilkinson of Paso Robles. Santa Marians Tim Randolph and Elton Shaffer were right on the winner's heels all the way but Wilkinson made no mistakes. Randolph finished second and Shaffer third, with Atascadero's Tom Grzincic and defending champ Kenny Kirkpatrick, of Nipomo, coming home fourth and fifth. Santa Maria's Joey Silva and Randolph captured 8 lap heat race victories.

Ron German, of Paso Robles, swept the 8 lap heat and the 15 lap feature in an exhibition appearance for Super 4s, which are modified mini stocks. Coming home behind German in the main were: David Mullett, Mike Weigel, Robby Claborn and Scott Bowen..

Next Saturday night Wild 106 FM/Bandit Sprint Cars, Winged Rebel Cup Sprint Cars and Automart Wholesale Mini Stocks will be in competition. Gates open at four, with qualifying at six and racing at seven.
