PLACERVILLE (4-16-05) - After a near month delay due
to mother nature’s wrath and persistent natural springs in the track, the long
awaited opener for the 40th Anniversary El Dorado County New Car Dealer’s
Season at Placerville Speedway is here and four divisions of racing are on tap
for this Saturday night.
The fire breathing wingless sprint cars will headline the
event which opens the 23 event racing season at the popular foothill speedway
and will be joined by the action packed wingless midget lites along with the Pro
Stocks and the Pure Stocks.
Saturday’s event will mark the opening of Placerville
Speedway’s 40th Anniversary Season. Built around a community football field in
1965, the quarter-mile clay oval is now known as one of Northern California’s
best Saturday night racing programs. This Saturday night should be no exception
as this special season opens much like it did decades ago before they had wings
and natural springs.
As one of California’s only facilities featuring the
wingless sprint cars for the evening, a strong showing of the exciting division
is expected Saturday. After two years of growth, more that 130 wingless cars
exist in California and nearly thirty of them are expected here this weekend.
To the true dirt track enthusiast, wingless sprint car
racing remains at the heart of the sport. Without the large air foil on top of
the caged open wheels drivers must use true skill to power their way through the
corners and spectators can enjoy the site of that effort with a clear view into
the cockpit of the car from the grandstands.
Joining the wingless big cars Saturday will be the Midget
Lites of the Bay Cities Racing Association which will also race wingless for
this event. The popular open wheel division is also a true delight to fans when
the wings are removed for a night of racing, putting drivers on a narrow line
between winning and totally out of control lap after lap.
As the two wingless divisions will delight the open wheel
fans, both of Placerville Speedway’ traditional stock car divisions will begin
their campaign for the 2005 El Dorado County New Car Dealer Association
Championship Series.
The Pro Stock division will return with both veteran
drivers such as defending champion Shane Miller of Citrus Heights and new faces
as well this season. In the Pure Stock division, many new faces will compete for
the 2005 title. Defending champion Mark Treat is reportedly advancing to the Pro
Stock ranks while his uncle, Bob Treat, a former two time Street Stock champion
here, will take the wheel of the younger Treat’s championship Pure Stock for
the season.
The on the edge of your seat action is set begin on
Saturday at 6:30 with qualifying for the sprint cars followed by racing at7
which will include heat races, semi main events and feature events for each
division. The grandstands will open at Placerville at 5 p.m. and an early
arrival to the speedway is suggested to insure seating availability on this long
awaited season opener.
Tickets will be available at the gate. Adult tickets are
$11, juniors and seniors $9, children are $4 and under six will be admitted for
free. For further information log on to www.placervillespeedway.com
