(8/8/2005 Fresno, CA) The Awesome Aussie Peter Murphy and the
Tarlton & Son #21 Maxim took their 3rd win of the season this past
Saturday at Santa Maria speedway in the 2nd race of the VRA/Bandit Sprint
Grand Slam Challenge. Murphy now sits atop of the standings in the
5 race series. The evening started out with the Sharp Insurance, Elite
Landscaping, 4CCCC's Service #21 Maxim timing in 4th out of 40 cars.
With the invert Peter would start 6th in his heat and blaze to the win and a
5th place starting position in the "A".
The green would see Murph pass USAC/CRA regular and current defending track
champion Danny Sheridan on lap number one and set sale for the leaders.
By the 3rd trip around the speedway he was on leader and pole sitter Evans
Suggs and slipped past for the lead. Sheridan would take the lead on the
5th circuit and would swap the lead with Murphy several times over the next 3
laps. On lap nine Murphy would dive to the bottom and keep the car
pinned and rocket around Sheridan and never look back. Peter collected
$3,000 for the win.
"This feels excellent." Murphy chanted. "Blaine (Steele, crew
chief) and the guys gave me a fast one tonight. Once we got around
Sheridan the final time we checked out on them. This gives us some real
momentum for this weekend when we head to Skagit for the "360"
Nationals. There will be a good group of cars up there but no worries
with Blaine turning the wrenches I like my chances."
