(7/31/2005 Hanford, CA) It was a bit
of an up down race for the Awesome Aussie Peter Murphy and the Tarlton &
Sons #21 Saturday night. A poor draw would result in a late qualifying
attempt but Murphy used it to his advantage and put the Sharp Insurance/Elite
Landscaping #21 Maxim in the #2 spot. After the inversion Pete would
start 6th in the 2nd heat. It would not matter as Murphy sliced and
diced to the win in the heat and outside front row starting position.
Murphy would take the lead and lead for 8 circuits until surrendering the
lead. He would maintain that position for a strong showing in the 5 race
Grand Slam series and secure 2nd position in the points.
"We had a good car tonight." Said Murphy. "We ran upfront and
timed well. This is a 5 race series so consistency will be important.
If we can do this week in and week out the checkers will definitely fall our
way. I'm proud of the job Tommy (Tarlton) and the guys did to give me
this opportunity. No worries here and next week can't get here soon
enough."
