(NOVEMBER
15, 2005, PERRIS, CA)
The Valvoline USAC/CRA Sprint Cars will close their 2005 season when
Temecula Valley Pipe & Supply presents the popular series in the 9th
Annual Jack Kindoll Classic at Perris Auto Speedway this Saturday night.
The program will be highlighted by a 50-lap main event.
Two
drivers will be wearing new crowns when they show up at the Riverside County
clay oval on Saturday. Popular
Damion Gardner, of Concord, California, sewed up the USAC/CRA title last week
during the running of the Western World Championships at Manzanita Speedway in
Phoenix, Arizona. Like Gardner,
Lincoln, Indiana’s Dave Darland has a pair of new titles worth bragging over.
The likeable 39 year old won the 2005 Budweiser Oval Nationals at Perris
two weeks ago and backed that up with a win at the Western World last week at
Manzanita.
It
is the first sprint car championship for Gardner and it came in a season most
drivers can only dream about. The slender superstar has racked up 15 main event
wins and has been fast qualifier 21 times.
In the two years of the USAC/CRA Series, Gardner is the all-time leader
with 23 main event wins. That is 10
more than Cory Kruseman who is second on the list.
While
it was the first ever sprint car championship for Gardner, it was the ninth for
his car owner Ron Chaffin. Chaffin’s
previous eight titles came in SCRA with the last coming in 2003 with Richard
“The Gasman” Griffin behind the wheel.
Hall of Famers Lealand McSpadden and Ron Shuman also won titles for
Chaffin.
In
addition to his USAC/CRA crown, Gardner will collect the booty for his first
place finish in the 2005 Snap-on Tools Trophy Dash Series.
That treasure is a $5,000.00 package of Snap-on Tools!!!
Darland,
comes into Saturday’s race as the hottest driver in the country.
In addition to his wins the past couple weeks at The PAS and Manzanita,
he won the Rich Vogler Classis at Winchester, Indiana on October 16th.
Despite his hot finish, he ended up
second overall to Levi Jones in the 2005 USAC National Sprint Car standings.
Darland won the 1997 USAC National Sprint Car title, the 1999 USAC Silver
Crown championship and the 2001 and 2002 USAC National Midget crowns.
Ventura’s
Cory Kruseman has won three of the previous eight Jack Kindoll Classics.
Torrance, California’s Rickie Gaunt, the 2004 SCRA Champion, is the
defending Jack Kindoll Classic champion.
Saturday’s
program will feature qualifying, the three lap Snap-on Tools Trophy Dash, four
10-lap heat races, B main and 50 lap A main event.
A high car count is expected on Saturday and the program may also include
a C main. Spectator gates will open
at 5:00 PM.
On
Friday, there will be racing on the Diamond Valley Automotive Group Honda –
Mazda – Volkswagen Street Legal Drag Strip.
It only costs $20.00 to compete and the gates will open at 5:00 PM.
