(AUGUST
2, 2005, PERRIS, CA) The
red hot “Demon,” Damion Gardner, will bring another winning streak to Perris
Auto Speedway this Saturday night when Temecula Valley Pipe & Supply
presents the Valvoline USAC/CRA Sprint Cars at the Riverside County clay oval.
Gardner, who earlier in the year won four straight main events, has won
the last three in a row in the second year series.
The
Concord, California based driver, who now leads the series with ten victories in
2005, won at The PAS two weeks ago and won both main events last weekend at
Washington’s Skagit Speedway. Since
the final race in June, which Gardner won, he has captured four of the last five
main events. The only one he did
not win was July 2nd when he was forced out with mechanical problems.
The
sometimes controversial star, who won a USAC Western Midget main event at
Bakersfield driving for NHRA Funny Car star Cruz Pedregon on July 9th,
is making another run at point leader and arch rival Rip Williams.
When the series made its last appearance at The PAS two weeks ago,
Williams, who is the defending champion, led Gardner by a healthy 113 points in
the championship standings. Since
that time, Gardner has shaved 63 digits off Williams advantage and now trails by
a mere 50 points.
Future
Hall of Famer Williams, of Yorba Linda, California, will be looking for his 101st
main event victory when starter Eddie Ramirez throws the green flag on Saturday
night. Among the other top
competitors for Saturday nights trophy will be third in the standings Mike Kirby
of Torrance, two-time Indiana Sprint Week Champion Cory Kruseman of Ventura,
2004 SCRA Champion Rickie Gaunt of Torrance & his teammate Charles Davis Jr.
from Buckeye, Arizona, former Oval Nationals Champion Tony Jones of Norco, Mike
Spencer from Temecula, 2004 USAC National Sprint Car Rookie of the Year Josh
Ford of Camarillo, Corona’s Steve Ostling, Santa Maria’s Danny Sheridan and
teenage star R.J. Johnson from Phoenix, Arizona.
In addition, Jason York, who last week won the Golden State Challenge
Series final race of the year in his hometown of Chico, California and who won a
USCA/CRA main at The PAS in 2004, will also be on hand on Saturday.
Saturday’s
exhibition of clay slinging speed will consist of qualifying, the 3-lap Snap-on
Tools Trophy Dash, four heats races, a B main and a 30-lap A main event.
Spectator gates will open at 5:00 PM.
On
Friday night, The Diamond Valley Automotive Group Honda – Mazda – Volkswagen
Strip at The PAS street legal drag strip will be in action as well.
The cost to race on the drag strip is $20.00 per competitor.
Gates open at 5:00 PM.
