(JUNE
1, 2005, PERRIS, CA)
Perris Auto Speedway promoter Don Kazarian announced to the huge crowd at
last Saturday’s Temecula Valley Pipe & Supply Valvoline USAC/CRA Sprint
Car races that he has signed a contract with the Lake Perris Fairgrounds to
promote Street Legal Drag Racing in the spectator parking lot adjacent to his
famous half-mile clay oval. The
eighth of a mile strip will be called “The Strip at The PAS” and racing will
commence when paving is done later in June or early in July.
From that point on, racing will take place every Friday night.
“I
have been working on this for about a year and a half,” Kazarian told the
crowd. “This will get a lot of
kids off the street and into a safe racing environment.
Hopefully someday some of them will try our oval racing as well starting
in hornets or street stocks and going all the way to racing sprint cars and who
knows where after that.”
The
start line Christmas tree, k-rails and all of the other equipment has been
ordered and should be delivered any day. As
soon as the paving is done, The PAS will be the Friday night place to be for
drag racing.
“We
cannot wait for opening night, “ Kazarian said with a smile.
“There is strip at the Irwindale Speedway, California Speedway and one
in San Diego. However, there is not
one right around here and this is one the fastest growing areas in the country.
There are a lot of kids and parents around here who will welcome the idea
of a safe place to race.”
The
racing will no be limited to the younger set.
Anyone who has a valid drivers license, helmet and car registration will
be eligible to go racing at the newest drag strip on the west coast.
