(FEBRUARY 25,
2005, PERRIS, CA) Promoter Don Kazarian announced on Thursday that Perris
Auto Speedway has joined forces with the American Cancer Society and March will
be "Relay for Life Month" at the popular Southern California clay
oval.
The PAS will unite drivers, crews, officials and fans in an effort to raise more
than $10,000.00 for Relay for Life during March. "Everyone knows someone or
has a family member who has battled cancer," Kazarian stated over his desk
on Thursday. "This is a great cause and we are going to get behind it and
help out as much as we can with the Relay for Life."
Donations will be taken at the track at all four races during March. In
addition, during intermission at those events the drivers will be making their
way into the stands to help collect money. "Drivers always enjoy helping
out and we expect full participation from them at every race in March. It will
also allow fans to see their favorites up close and interact with them for a
great cause," Kazarian said. "When asked in the past, the racing
community has been very generous when it comes to helping those in need. I
imagine we will see that generosity once again in the Relay for Life
campaign."
The Perris Auto Speedway event will tie directly to the 3rd Annual Perris Valley
Relay for Life festivities to be held at Perris High School on April 9th &
10th. Organizers expect more than 1,000 people to attend the two-day affair that
will be highlighted by a 24-hour run/walk, live entertainment, food, a Luminaria
ceremony to honor survivors and to remember those who lost their battle,
gratitude garden, kids camp and other activities. Funds raised will be used to
provide services for local cancer patients, community education programs and
national research projects.
The Relay for Life began in 1985 at the University of Puget Sound when Dr.
Gordon Klatt walked and ran solo around a track and raised $27,000.00. Since
then the Relay for Life has awarded more than $2.4 billion in grants for cancer
research and has more than two million dedicated volunteers nationwide.
How can someone help? They can be sure to be at Perris Auto Speedway at any race
