(September 22, 2005, SAN BERNARDINO, CA)- The USAC Western States Midgets
and USAC Ford Focus midgets headline the racing card at Orange Show Speedway
this Saturday. In addition to the USAC open wheel divisions, OSS is also hosting
an INEX Legend Car National Regional Qualifier as well. Plus, the ASA Pro-4’s,
the ASA Late Models and the ASA Stock Pony division will compete this Saturday
rounding out an action-packed night of racing at Orange Show Speedway’s ¼-mile
oval.
It’s been six years since the USAC Midgets raced at
the 1/4-mile paved oval, which has seen so much USAC action through the years.
Sleepy Tripp won that 1999 race, as well as the previous race there, in 1992.
Troy Ruttman, who won the 1952 Indianapolis 500, won
USAC’s race at the Orange Show, a Stock car race in USAC’s initial year of
operation, 1956. Bud Clemons also won a USAC Midget race at San Bernardino
during that first USAC season.
Robby Flock is the leader in the Western Midget Car Series, seeking a fifth
series title and a 51st career feature victory. Garrett Hansen of Manhattan
Beach, Calif. may have the inside track to victory when the USAC Western Midget
Car Series returns to the Orange Show Speedway in San Bernardino, Calif. this
Saturday. Hansen, currently sixth in the standings, won
USAC’s last race there - a Ford Focus feature in 2002.
Alex Harris of Simi Valley, Calif. leads a tight
five-way battle for supremacy into Saturday’s California Ford Focus Pavement
Midget Car Series race at Orange Show Speedway in San Bernardino, Calif.
Harris holds a slim three-point advantage over Audra
Sasselli of Fresno, Calif. as the season winds down. Harris, who finished ninth
in the National Ford Focus points standings last weekend at Lima, Ohio and
Anderson, Ind., has four pavement victories heading into Saturday’s event, the
first at Orange Show for Focus cars since 2002. The USAC California Pavement
Ford Focus Midgets share the billing with the Midgets in Saturday’s
“doubleheader” program.
The ASA Pro-4 division will crown a champion this Saturday with Rob Kiemele
holding a slim six point lead over Tim Carruthers with Rex Lockwood in third
only fourteen points behind Carruthers. Rookie driver Anthony Maniella continues
to hold onto the top spot in the ASA Late Model division with Dave Arce, Santee
ten points back in second and Richard Hooper only two points back of Arce in
third with only two points races left in the season.
The INEX Legend Cars event is a Regional Qualifier for the Nationals in the
Masters, Pro and Semi-Pro divisions. The winner’s of each division will be
entered in to the Nationals event later this year, which takes place at Lake
Erie Speedway in Pennsylvania. Competitors from Nevada and Arizona as well as
California are expected to race this event. The Bandoleros are a companion event
to the INEX Legend Cars and will compete also on Saturday.
Spectator gates open at 5:00 pm and racing action gets underway at 6:30 pm.
Admission for this special event will be $12.00 for adults, $10.00 for seniors
& military, $4.00 for juniors 6 to 12 and children under 5 are FREE.
