Altamont
Raceway & Arena...The
NCMA Asphalt series had a new comer this evening as John Silva made the run for
the gold and got it. Silva has
spent much of this season getting his sprint car ready to roll.
Apparently it paid off as Silva was fast time, won his heat and slipped
around series point’s leader, Pt Ariaz to claim the main event win.
Two
heats were run with Silva easily going from the last starting position to first.
Ariaz also started in the rear of his heat to claim the win.
Ed
Amador made short work of the Trophy Dash when he jump into the lead and never
let anyone else near him. Ariaz was
second, Silva was third and Michael Zarevich was fourth.
The
stage was set for the Main event, the NCMA sprints were out in hot laps and Ed
Amador’s engine “expired”. There
was fluid on the track, with some clean-up time involved.
Line up was achieved with Jeff Burrows and Burt Siverling bringing them
around to the green. Siverling competes in the Dirt division and the asphalt
division of NCMA using only one race car. He
competed at
Chico
in the Select Series last night and managed the switch over to compete this
evening. Rob Hammond also made the
Chico
tow and started third with Don Hicks and Steve Amador rounding out the top
five. Ariaz started eighth and by
the eighth lap had the lead. The
next lap had Don Hicks engine let go and by the time he got it stopped, flames
were licking at him. Fortunately,
John Hughes from
Fernley
,
NV
and a friend to NCMA had a new product to show to the race track. He got to use
it first hand which was never the intent, but great that he used “Cold Fire”
and put out the flames faster than ever believed.
Hicks was able to exit the car quickly and without harm. “Cold Fire”
also makes the cleanup a breeze and racing was resumed in less tiame
than would be expected. With only
five laps remaining, Ariaz got caught up in lap traffic, and Silva moved around
to take the lead. He was never
challenged as Ariaz held down second several car lengths behind him. Siverling
was third. Zarevich, who also did
the one racer switch over from
Chico
was fourth and Steve Amador had a great fifth place finish.
Notes
of interest: Dusty Resteria and Dennie
Burell both ran on asphalt for the first time this
evening, both went home in one piece!
NCMA
asphalt series will compete at
Altamont
, the “Fastest Half Mile in the West” on Saturday, August 6th.
