July 16, 2005 - Chowchilla, CA...Experience out ran the exuberant this evening as Gary Koster took his first win of the season. Not far behind was Ed Amador a combined total of approximately 100 years of racing between them! NCMA non-wing sprints made the tow to Chowchilla Speedway this evening. It wasn’t only the 360 engines running hot; it was everyone sharing the heat. Three qualifying heats set the field for the main event. Sam Fries and Gary Koster were the one-two spots in heat one. David Goodwill and Burt Siverling were the one-two spots in heat two and Ed Amador and Rob Hammond taking the one-two spots in heat three. The lineup was set. The main event began with Pole sitter David Goodwill (opting for the outside), winner of the six car Trophy Dash, and Ed Amador right beside him. At the drop of the green flag Goodwill led the field into turn one. Amador took to the low side and picked up the lead. With the restart flag out due to a spun car in turn three, all was to do over. On the restart Goodwill again picked up the lead and held on. Amador was in hot pursuit with Gary Koster on his tail. Six laps later, Amador slid up coming out of turn four with Koster getting by him. For several laps you could have thrown a blanket over the top three racers. At mid race Koster moved under Goodwill for the lead and two laps later Amador moved into second with Goodwill retaining third. Koster and Amador ran several laps side by side. At the checkered it was Koster taking the win, Amador a very close second, Goodwill third, Patrick Russum fourth and Scott Pierson fifth. Special recognition to Dusty Renteria who fielded a sprinter for the first time this evening, and Denny Burrell, in his first race this year and first time ever on dirt. NCMA
