July
9, 2005 - Reno, NV...The
NCMA Select Series had a new feature winner this evening on the clay oval at
Reno-Fernley Raceway. Bobby McMahon
(affiliated with the Twin Cities 360’s) driving for the injured Rick Eversult
ran wire to wire to win the fourth race in the Select Series.
McMahon definitely knows his way around the track and was hardly
challenged for the lead, but not because nobody was trying.
Sacramento
’s Sam Fries (CSRA) got up to him several times only to fall back. Fries
held second and Gary Koster won the battle with Rob Hammond, finishing in third
with
Hammond
in fourth. This was the first time out for Koster since an injury earlier in
the season. He drove smoothly and
held his ground well! Jeff Meusch,
in his debut 360 appearance drove over from Susanville to take the fifth
position. Although this race had
several cautions, it was basically a classic dirt sprint race with nineteen
racers making the trek from all over
California
.
Napa
’s David Goodwill was working at Fries, but was having a struggle, including a
flat tire which put him down a lap. Several
other first timers hit the dirt tonight. Sam
Davies brought out his brand new sprint and had Ed Amador do the honors for him.
Amador finished sixth and had never sat in this seat.
This left Amador’s seat empty and Pat Ariaz, the NCMA asphalt champion
for 2003 and 2004 took a ride on the dirt and finished seventh in the #76.
Phil Pedlar (CSRA) has driven everything through the years and fielded a
beautiful new 360. Steve
Amador and Don Hicks made the drive from Patterson to play in the dirt.
Both normally run the asphalt branch of NCMA.
Two heat races were run with Jason Youngman of Grass Valley (Twin
Cities360’s) and McMahon winning them.
The
Select Series will be making a first time run at Silver Dollar Speedway,
Chico
on July 22nd. This is a
rain makeup date and will be one of three Select Series races left this season.
The remaining two will be held at Reno-Fernley Raceway and will be an
enjoyable way to complete this series. The
Reno-Fernley staff makes the racing experience at their track a pleasure!
