JUNE
4, 2005 - Tracy, CA...Manteca’s Pat Ariaz looks like he is
on his way to another Pavement Championship for the NCMA sprints.
It was a clean sweep as he won the heat, the Trophy Dash and the Main
Event.
The heat was run with Don Hicks of Patterson and Burt
Siverling from Concord bringing the pack to the green.
Ariaz took the lead after passing several racers and Hicks was able to
hold onto second in his first outing of the 2005 season.
Michael Zarevich also of Manteca was third, and Siverling, fourth.
The Trophy Dash had Ariaz taking the win, Zarevich second
and Ed Amador third. Just the
opposite way they qualified!
The Main Event began with Siverling and Hicks holding down
the front row, Ed Amador and Michael Zarevich coming up behind them.
Siverling jumped right out and led the first several laps.
Meanwhile -back in the back- Ariaz was starting the trek to the front, he
passed several cars. Rob Hammond
had a miserable night, spinning out, possibly from loosing his driveline.
He did continue to race until the vibration proved to be too much.
Hicks had one of his first DNF’s in years as his sprinter slipped out
of gear and wouldn’t go back in. He
had held onto second for some laps and M. Zarevich passed him and took the
position. E. Amador was then in
third. Siverling finished fourth
Bill Zarevich also in his first outing for the year, filled the seat for Steve
Amador, doing a great job and rounding out the top five.
Mark Amador also ran for several first of the year laps but didn’t have
the proper set up and exited the track for safety reasons. Several notes of
interest this evening. Steve Amador
had brought out his sprint only to get up in the marbles during hot laps, doing
a lot of damage to it. His crew
chief, Phil Alves and B. Zarevich worked to make it race ready.
S. Amador had to leave, and Zarevich raced it to fifth.
Hicks had a strangely painted vehicle as half was red and the tail was
the usual silver #79. When asked
about it, he stated,” After I finished building everyone else’s I get
what’s left in the barn.”
NCMA will race a “race within a race” at Altamont
Raceway & Arena on June 11 with the CASA sprints. Join us for another
evening of great open wheel excitement!
