May
28, 2005 - Marysville, CA...David
Goodwill,
Napa
’s “Driven’ Dentist” drove it in deep tonight and won the second round
in the NCMA Select Series. Goodwill
spent the first race trying to figure out what was wrong. He
and his busy pit crew must have figured it out as he picked up where he left off
last season by taking the win.
The
second round in the NCMA Select Series headed out on the dirt at Twin Cities
Speedway with some rough tumbles this evening leaving drivers and fans alike
wondering if there was something strange in the air.
Three heats were run with 360 sprints from the Twins Cities group, NCMA,
and CSRA competing. Charlie Mars
from Marysville won the first heat. He
started in the front and held on for the win.
Tim Sherman of
Citrus Heights
, who was the 2003 CSRA Champion, claimed the second heat.
Ed Amador founder of the Select Series took the third heat.
On the cool down lap, Rick Eversult of Rio Linda launched off the left
rear tire of Sam Fries from
Sacramento
, did a nasty flip and landed upright very hard.
Eversult who has been raised around racing was conscious and air lifted
from the track before the main event occurred.
(At the time of this article, he was known to have cracked a vertebrae in
his neck and suffered a bad concussion.) Mars had the honor of drawing the pill
for the inversion of the main event. Jeremy
Hawes of Marysville and Amador from
Modesto
brought 21 sprints around to take the green. Amador took the lead.
Doug Brewer of
Livermore
ended up in the wall and was out for the night before the first go-round.
Sherman
, with 27 years in a race seat, got around Amador, but Amador took it back.
Sherman
got a little sideways and seemed flip after bouncing off a tire barrier and
rolled over Amador’s sprinter.
Sherman
was done for the night with a dislocated thumb and lacerated hand.
Several laps later Rob Hammond from
Morgan Hill
was running in front and being challenged by Goodwill.
About midway, Goodwill gained the lead with
Hammond
hanging on, but Steve Stein of
Davis
was rockin’ & rollin’ and got around
Hammond
to claim second at the finish.
Hammond
was third. Mars finished fourth.
Steve Nelson who started eleventh held on and methodically worked his
sprint car right into fifth.
The
NCMA Select Series will continue on Friday, June 17th at Silver
Dollar Speedway,
Chico
,
