May
14, 2005 - Tracy, CA...Northern California Modified (Sprint
car) Assoc. returned to the Altamont asphalt this evening to continue their
pavement quest of the “Fastest Half Mile in the in the West”.
Pat Ariaz proved he still has command of the track that
took a bite out of him last season as he finished first in the thirty lap main
event. He was also fast time.
Rob Hammond was second quick but had his share of problems
tonight. He was running his heat
and the drive line let go. Since
the car wouldn’t go, his night was done. Ariaz won the heat.
When the Trophy Dash was run, Rookie Jeff Burrows was able
to grab the lead and held on like a tough bulldog.
Ariaz tried every which way, but tonight was Burrows!
The main event started with a total invert. Burt Siverling started on the pole with Ed Amador beside him.
Siverling had his problems too and after correcting a minor catastrophe
after hot laps, was able to go tonight. Burrows,
Michael Zarevich and Ariaz began the main event.
Amador “the Racing Farmer” grabbed the lead and held on for a couple
laps. Ariaz was on a mission and
raced around him to claim the lead for the remainder of the event. However
Amador continued to race right with him and finished in second.
Burrows was third after a standout evening. Siverling was able to finish
fourth, and Zarevich rounded out the top five.
