April
30,
2005 - Chowchilla, CA...First outing and his first win gave
new NCMA member Doug Brewer an exciting finish to the first NCMA Select Series
race at Chowchilla Speedway this evening.
The NCMA
Select series in its second season offers open events for 360 sprints to compete
in with seven races at different dirt tracks throughout California and into
Nevada. All tracks are run on
specific rules under the guide lines of NCMA.
Three heats were held with Sam Fries of Sacramento taking
the first one, Rick Eversult, the second, and Rob Hammond of Morgan Hill, the
third. Each received a $10
certificate from CL Bryant for fuel.
The Trophy Dash included George Terry, Delhi, Citrus
Heights’ Tim Sherman, Keith Shipherd of Pleasant Hill, Hammond, Eversult, and
Fries. Four quick laps and Hammond
picked up the win.
Twenty-one sprints took the track for the main, with Don
Emery and Brewer bringing them to the green.
Steve Stein, Terry and Sherman were the top five starters.
Not for long, as Brewer had control by the fifth lap and held on for the
night. However, Sam Fries, who
started ninth was right on his tail several times and even managed to get around
him once. Brewer had it tonight and
kept it! Brewer blew a radiator
hose with only a few laps to go and stated “my temp only got to 180(degrees)
and I was able to finish.” Fries said he thought he’d “wait it out and
have the win”, but five laps just didn’t do it.
Fries was second. Ed Amador of Modesto started twelfth and snaked his way right
into third. Sacramento’s Scott
Pierson started fourteenth and finished fourth, and Eversult completed the top
five. All in all it was a
great race for the season opener, with literally only one hang up as Michael
Zarevich was punted from the rear and ended up hanging between the front stretch
wall and the fence. Zarevich was
ok, but his new sprinter did not go home the same way it came.
Racers from NCMA, SCRA, and the Twin Cities 360 group
participated in the race tonight and if you would like more information go to
the NCMARacing.com website for the rules and schedule.
The next NCMA Select Series race will be held at Twin
Cities Speedway, Marysville, CA. NCMA
sprints will run at Lakeport Speedway next weekend, May 7.
