August 24, 2005....It is no secret this year that
the short track industry is facing it's toughest times in history. Many issues
from weather, rising cost to the fan, competitor and facilities, among many
other reasons, has jeopardized the future of short track racing. We have always
been able to focus our concentration on quality presentations in every event
which takes considerable time and effort and we are proud of our
accomplishments. This is only possible by having well trained staff who treat
everyone fairly. This season, with the rumor mill working overtime across the
country, it has taken considerable time away from those efforts. This seasons
distractions have also taken a toll on the staff, my family and myself.
Many of you may know that I have been involved with Super Speedway events for a
number of years. Having staged major events at places like Phoenix, Las Vegas
& Colorado. My commitment to the major sanction bodies, facilities and other
projects in the Fresno community have also taken more of my time.
As I sat on the airplane home from the Colorado Indycar Series event yesterday,
I listed the positive and negatives of why we should continue operations.
Unfortunately the negatives far out weighed the positives. Sometimes good
business and personal decisions have to be made, in this case, now is the time.
Up until this week we had every intention of completing the season but not
returning next year. After consulting with family, friends and associates, I
have decided to retire from the short track business, effective immediately, to
concentrate efforts in more positive and productive areas.
We have a lot of people to thank, including the greatest staff in racing,
sponsors and competitors along with all the loyal fans who have touched our
lives during this endeavor.
We also wish the best of luck to all in the future.
