August 22, 2005 - The Central State Racing Association's Wingless Sprints
will have a busy weekend ahead of them with doubleheader races at Sacramento
Raceway Park
on Friday August 26 and Chowchilla Speedway on Saturday August 27. These will be
the 12th and 13th season point races, and to date there have been eight separate
feature winners with a very competitive group of racers.
In the point battle for the 2005 Championship, the points have been close
throughout the season, and it's likely that the title won't be won until the
final checkered flag falls on Friday, October 15. Young Patrick "Hot
Rod" Russum of Citrus Heights has just a one point lead over last season's
defending Champion, Global K Mortgage's Billy Garcia
of Sheldon. Red Line Oil's Jerry Kobza from Folsom, Chico's Don Emery, and Scott
Pierson of Elk Grove round out the top five point leaders and could all grab the
lead with five point races remaining.
Veteran drivers Gary Koster of Woodland, West Sacramento's Phil Pedlar, and
rookie driver Greg Higginbotham have all finished strong in recent races. Last
week's feature winner Dan Gonderman of Antioch had a great run and may be back
in action this weekend as well.
The CSRA Wingless Sprint teams continue to promote the club, their sponsors and
racing by displaying their cars at every opportunity. Every Tuesday evening
through August 31 at Roseville's Cruise Night, teams from the club have brought
their cars out to display at the CSRA booth from 5-9 pm in downtown Roseville.
Special thanks to the drivers and car
owners that have made the effort for this fun venue.
The CSRA greatly appreciates the support from Dan Ramey at DSR Graphics &
Signs in Cameron Park, who has donated weekly contingency awards to the CSRA
drivers and did the graphics on Tony Silvera's new car. Sierra Tow, Sierra
Shower, and RJB Engine Development are also sponsors for the 2005 racing season.
Friday night's action at Sacramento Raceway Park's quarter mile oval track will
begin at 8 pm, and will also feature the quick Mini Sprint 600's. The track is
located on Excelsior Drive in Sacramento, adult admission is $10.00 and kids
under 12 are free. Saturday night's race at Chowchilla Speedway's one third mile
track at the Chowchilla Fairgrounds
will feature the SCRA injected 360's, the Wingless Sprints, Limited Late Models,
and Mini Stocks.
Come out and watch as these talented wingless warriors compete for some exciting
open wheeled racing and fun family entertainment. For more information contact
Richard Basden at (209) 794-0801, Sacramento Raceway at (916) 363-2653 or
