GARDNER CONTINUES TO LIGHT UP THE RECORD BOOKWITH 13th WIN

October 2, 2005...The return to Perris Auto Speedway in October meant nothing new as Damion Gardner won his 13th Valvoline USAC/CRA race of the year after adding to his fast time record with his 19th of the season. Just like last week in Arizona, the Demon started 8th and passed Josh Ford on lap 12 before he added to his record pace. He also took advantage of point leader, Rip William’s broken rear end to sweep by him into the points lead by 21.

Mike Spencer took second after falling back to 7th early and rallying late in the race on another great drive. He was followed by Cory Kruseman, Tony Jones and Mike Kirby. Jones car stalled on lap two and he restarted to put on an aggressive driving show the rest of the way. Kirby was off two weeks while starting a new team and building a new TCR sprinter. He recovered from starting last in the main event, after chasing an electrical problem that hurt his qualifying effort, and became the hard charger of the night by passing 17 cars.

Wally Pankratz made the feature and ran 20th in the Jory/Williams back-up car in what will be his last year of racing. Legendary Parnelli Jones was announced as the Grand Marshall for this year’s 15th annual Wagsdash at Ventura Raceway on October 29th.

Heat race winners were Mike Kirby, Rip Williams, Mike Spencer and Charles Davis Jr with Rodney Argo winning the semi without brakes. He was the first car out in the main when he had the same problem. I guess you don’t need brakes when you are leading. Early leader Josh Ford lost a drive shaft and finished 16th. Rickie Gaunt recovered from a forced spin to finish 6th as it was an action packed night with 42 cars in the house.
