August 29, 2005...Not
too long ago point leader, Rip Williams, had a substantial 100 plus point lead
and was seemingly on his way to two straight championships in the Valvoline
USAC/CRA series. Since then Damion Gardner has been on fire winning four races,
to make 10 total on the year as he has closed the gap. He continued his fast
time mastery setting his 17th last Saturday night at Santa Maria
while finishing second to Mike Kirby and pulling to within 10 points of the
Ripper. The championship will be a barn burner as Mike Kirby and Cory Kruseman
are still in the hunt.
This
Saturday night at Perris Auto Speedway, the Demon and the Ripper will be going
head to head for 50 laps with the points lead now up for grabs. Joining them in
the battle for another win will be Cory Kruseman, Mike Kirby, Mike Spencer,
Danny Sheridan, Rickie Gaunt, Charles Davis Jr, Josh Ford, Tony Jones, Steve
Ostling, Jordan Hermansader, Adam Mitchell, RJ Johnson, Seth Wilson and Alan
Ballard all capable of winning on the fast Perris oval. An additional 30 teams
will test the USAC/CRA top drivers this week with many “drop-in” hot shoes
looking to grab a big win at the PAS.
