AUGUST 15, 2005...Damion Gardner of Concord, Calif.
has won 10 feature events
this year and has posted the fastest qualifying time 16 times! One would think
that would put him atop the series standings but instead he ranks second to
defending champion Rip Williams entering this Saturday's event at the Perris
(Calif.) Auto Speedway!
In
contrast, Williams, of Yorba Linda, Calif., only has one victory and two fast
times so far, but his consistency has paid off. In 22 starts he has 14
"top-four" finishes, although only two of his six seconds have come in
races won by Gardner.
A
30-lap feature tops Saturday's Perris program and with 74 points up for grabs,
Gardner has a chance to catch Williams, who sits 34 points ahead of him.
