JULY 24, 2005...Damion
Gardner returned from Indiana Speedweek to capture his 8th Valvoline
USAC/CRA event of the year in a car he once drove, and sold to Kevin Urton
several years ago. The Demon, driving the Temecula Valley Pipe &
Supply, Arizona Race Mart, Eagle, Shaver # 50, set
fast time for the 14th time this season and started eighth in the 30
lap feature. He took the lead from Rip Williams on lap 27 and won going away.
The team’s familiar red car was still in Indiana for more racing, so they
acquired the old silver and green version Damion had driven to numerous wins,
and he didn’t skip a beat. In the winner’s circle he said “Kevin had all
my old green stuff and I knew if I was patient, I could win as they were all
over the track.”
Rip Williams finished second and
still maintains over a 100 point leader over Gardner as the club hits the half
way point in the season the next race at Skagit. Rip won his third Snap-on Tools
Trophy Dash of the year as he leads that category. He was followed in the A Main
by Danny “Showtime” Sheridan, Mike Kirby and Mike Spencer to round out the
top five.
Early leader, Cory Kruseman, and
new 2005 Indiana Sprint Week Champion, was pulling away when his car quit
running on lap 16. It was a reported electrical problem. He finished 18th.
Mike Kirby was the hard charger of the night coming form 13th to get
4th officially, but had to restart at the back after an opening lap
shunt.
The heats were won by Cory
Kruseman, Charles Davis Jr, Jordan Hermansader and Tony Jones. The Semi was
taken by Rickie Gaunt. The full moon racing only had two flips on the night as
the large crowd enjoyed the great racing.
