FEBRUARY 14, 2005...Four drivers share the spotlight
as the 2005 Valvoline USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series continues this Saturday night
at Perris (Calif.) Auto Speedway.
Mike Kirby of Torrance, Calif. and Charles Davis, Jr. of Phoenix, Ariz. are
virtually tied for the series point lead after the first two races, while Damion
Gardner of Concord, Calif. will try to repeat his February 5 Perris victory and
Rip Williams of Yorba Linda, Calif. continues his search for that elusive 100th
career Sprint car triumph.
Kirby won the last CRA title in 1993 before USAC picked up the sanction last
year. Williams won the inaugural USAC title in 2004. Gardner is the series' most
proficient winner, with nine total wins, while Davis, who finished second to
Dave Darland in the 2005 series opener, is still seeking his first win despite
10 "top-10" finishes.
Gardner, Williams and Kirby have accounted for seven 1-2-3 finishes in USAC/CRA
competition, including February 5 at Perris.
Saturday's events, presented by Temecula Valley Pipe & Supply and Vista
Paint Motor Sports, conclude with a 30-lap feature. Spectator gates open at 5
pm.
