CHICO, CA (9-22-05) - John Padjen
Motorsports is excited to present a brand new weekend of racing to Silver Dollar
Speedway on October 14th and 15th.
The 1st Annual Non-Wing Spec-Sprint Nationals is an attempt to
bring alive a yearly big race for the growing teams and drivers of this upstart
division. Currently non-wing spec
sprint cars are the fastest growing dirt track division all over California.
It is an economic way to get into an open-wheel sprint car division.
However, don’t let that fool you, this racing is close and fierce.
The
pit gate will open at 2 p.m. on both Friday and Saturday at Silver Dollar
Speedway. The front gate will open
at 5 p.m. on both nights. Friday
will feature time trials, heat races and an invitational main event.
Saturday night will have main event racing only.
General
grandstand admission prices will be $10.00 for adults and seniors on Friday
night. Juniors are $8.00 and
children $4.00. Kids five and under
will be admitted free. On Saturday
night, the admission for adults and seniors is $15.00.
Juniors are $12.00 with children $4.00 and under the age of five free.
This
race will boast an impressive $18, 215 purse for the two nights of racing.
The biggest chunk of that change will be awarded to the Saturday night
main event winner. The winner will
receive $2,500. Over $11,000 is up
for grabs during the final main event on Saturday night.
On Friday, an invitational main event will be posted.
The fastest 20 drivers from qualifying are invited only.
The invitational race pays $1,000 to win.
$5,100 is posted for that night’s main event.
Currently
many of the area’s top winged sprint car drivers are currently looking for
available rides. Some drivers
already committed to the event are Auburn’s Andy Forsberg, Sacramento’s
Herman Klein, Petaluma’s Randy Lathrop and Chico’s John Gray.
Some drivers mentioned as possibilities include National USAC stars Bud
Kaeding and Brad Sweet, but each have not secured a car for the race.
Top
non-wings teams are expected to compete and include perennial favorite Darrell
Hanestad. This year he has two wins
at Chico and had a third taken away because of his car being too loud.
Ralph Cortez was the most consistent non-wing spec driver this season and
because of that won the Placerville/Chico points challenge.
Other top teams and drivers include Grass Valley’s Jay Youngman,
Marysville’s Ryan McDaniel and Charlie Marrs.
