CHICO, CA (5-3-05) - Four racing divisions invade John Padjen’s Silver
Dollar Speedway this Friday night, May 7. Winged sprint cars, dirt modifieds,
pure stocks and non-wing spec sprint cars will compete during the Feather Falls
Casino Championship point racing. The spec sprint division will boast a $500.00
payday to the main event winner and a handsome purse for the rest of the field.
Pit gate is set to open at 4 p.m. Front grandstand gate will open at 6 p.m.
Adult prices are $10.00, juniors and seniors $8.00 and children $4.00. Sprint
car qualifying is slated to stat at 7 p.m. with racing to follow.
Chico’s Jonathan Allard won an exciting 25 lap main event in the sprint car
division this past Friday. Allard passed Auburn’s Andy Forsberg on the last
lap to steal the win. It has been a crazy past few months for the Chico native.
Last season he started the year running with the World of Outlaws and going for
the Rookie of the Year. Last year he was sidelined with injuries that kept him
from the cockpit for a few races. He returned in time for the California swing
of the Outlaw schedule in September of 2004. Thinking he was finishing the year
in the tour, Allard was fired from his ride after his hometown crown jewel
event, the Gold Cup Race of Champions. Allard was job-hunting late in the
season, which is like selling ice to an Eskimo. It wasn’t going to happen. So
Allard figured he’d find something over the winter. However, soon winter
turned into the spring and the sprint car world was starting back up without
Allard who was working in Chico at a friends business. Weighing his options,
Allard decided to stay at home and let things fall where they would. Allard’s
fortunes unpredictably changed for the better and he had a fresh start, while
his good friend Dennis Moore Jr. season ended. Moore was involved in a freak
accident in which his left arm was broken. Moore flew back home to Iowa, but
before he left made it known to his team that he wanted Allard in the car.
Allard was hired the next day to drive the Morrie Williams owned #0, one of the
best cars in California to drive. Allard now had a solid ride and a promising
2005. He has started strong with top five finishes and last weeks main event
win. “I’m just taking it day by day,” said Allard. “I’m just trying to
show everyone I still can drive after my phone stopped ringing over the
winter.”
Non-wing sprint cars will race for the first time this Friday at the
speedway. This was suppose to be their second appearance but points race two was
canceled because of rain. Last year this division brought a solid car count and
exciting close racing. A mini points battle will coincide with Silver Dollar
Speedway and Placerville Speedway events that the drivers attend.
Ryan McDaniel was back in his familiar place last Friday night, victory lane.
McDaniel continues to be one of the rising driving stars. We expect to see
McDaniel doing double duty this weekend. Last weekend, he won a 20-lap non-wing
main event at Marysville.
Phil Marino and Andy Aust provided the most exciting racing last week with a
door banging finish and tempers prevailing after the race. Marino got the win,
but Aust won the award for delivery the night’s best fastball into Marino’s
door. Hopefully, these two will continue their aggressive driving styles and a
rivalry will be born.
