August
17, 2005…California
Asphalt Sprintcar Association CEO and President Scott Clough and United States
Auto Club Western States Chief Tommy Hunt have been in negotiations for the last
month about the possibility of CASA and USAC working together to promote better
sprint car shows here in California. Although CASA and USAC have not reached a
final agreement as to how this will ultimately be put together, discussions are
moving towards CASA becoming the USAC Regional series in northern California.
As
a first step toward this process, CASA has cancelled their August 27th race at
Altamont and will be joining USAC at Stockton 99 Speedway on that same August 27th
date. This race will be a Western States show run under the USAC banner. However,
all CASA officials will be working with the USAC officials as a means to help
integrate the program.
This
will be a CASA point race, and will count towards CASA’s 2005 championship.
The
tire rule will be open for the CASA cars, and they will be able to run their
American Racer tires or they may purchase the USAC specified Hoosier tires. This
race will not count against any rookie drivers with respect to their rookie
status for future USAC competition.
In
return for CASA’s support of the Stockton 99 event, USAC will help support
CASA’s October 1st show at Altamont, and possibly one additional show to be
announced.
This
does not mean that CASA is dissolving to become USAC, nor does this rule out the
possibility that CASA may choose to sanction under an other sanctioning body for
2006 or continue it’s current path. It only means that both clubs have
come to a point they feel the time is right to co-sanction some shows as a trial
run.
