CASA Defines American Racer Front Tire Specs |

The California Asphalt Sprintcar Association has clarified the options allowed
for the new American Racer tire specifications for the 2005 season. In preparing
to fill season opening tire inventories and after careful review of the options
available from the manufacturer, CASA has settled on specific left front and
right front tires. Said CASA President and CEO, Scott Clough. “There were
four size options available from American Racer all with the same price, and
correct compound specs. But in looking at the specific needs of our cars and the
wheel sizes used by the majority of our teams, we felt it necessary to work
further with our distributor representative, Bob Martin at McCoy Enterprises, to
make sure we specified the tires that would best serve our club.” Wheel width differences were deemed a determining factor in
selecting from the options available. Many CASA teams use an eight inch wide
left front wheel as part of their overall chassis setup while others utilize ten
inch wide left fronts. Of the choices offered by American Racer there existed a
possibility that two left front tires would be required to service those
situations. “Ideally we want just one choice. The same tire for everyone and
minimal impact to inventory our supplies,” said Clough. “We decided the best
left front tire option was the 23.5x10 size. It measures ten inches across the
tread width and will fit both 8 and 10-inch wide wheels. The tire rolls out
around 75 inches, and is much the same as the left front tires we’ve been
using.” The right front tire will be the 24.0x11. This specific
tire measures somewhat wider than the 11-inch right front tire CASA has used in
the past but since all teams use a 10 or 11-inch wide right front wheel this
tire will mount up well on either wheel and measure approximately 77 inches in
circumference, again, much like the right front tires used previously. Note: All CASA teams that have purchased the 24.0x11, expecting to use it on the left front, should use it as a right front. If a 24.5x11 was purchased as a right front, it can be exchanged for a 23.5x10 tire (to complete the designated front tire combination) by contacting CASA directly. |
