(MAY 14, 2005 - SANTA MARIA, CA) Greg Porte flew to
victory in his Greg Porte Trucking sponsored 3G as he worked his way around
former champion Bobby Elliott on the 20th lap in heavy traffic. Elliott who
started from the front row jumped right to the lead as Porte followed and they
remained in a tremendous dual for the first 2/3's of the 30-lap feature. It all
looked like it could come to an abrupt end as Porte's front wheel jumped
Elliott.s left rear. Porte made a truly impressive save, regaining control and
reeling Elliott back in. They thrilled the crowd as Elliott held off Porte's
attempts at a pass until Elliott got snookered by a Porte move that pinned
Elliot behind a lapped car and wheelied his way to the lead and victory.
Just behind this dual was Evan Suggs ready to pounce until
power steering failure forced a premature end to his night on lap 25. Suggs had
a fast car and hung within striking distance until his cars demise.
Third place finisher Patrick Frisco drove the race of his
season holding off Jimmy Reeves for the entire race. A reeve kept charging but
was embroiled in his own battle with Santa Maria's Mike Baker. This was another
great trio battling that had the 2500+ crowd at the edge of their seats until
Baker spun and backed it into the wall on the last lap trying to make a move on
the unflappable veteran Reeves.
Fast time was set by Porte's 14.402 with Suggs. Thad
Bennett and Templeton's own Jason Montgomery won heat Races.
