(JUNE 13, 2005 - TULARE, CA) The highly successful wingless sprint
cars of SCRA return to Thunderbowl Raceway for the second week-in-a-row this
Saturday, June 18.
The series top contenders will be on-hand at the Tulare Fairgrounds’
1/3-mile clay facility, all with the same agenda, winning the 40-lap, $2,000
to-win main event.
Although they didn’t reach the top step of the podium
last Saturday, several drivers have large incentives coming into this
weekend’s event in addition to the increased payoff.
Chad Boespflug, (BASE FLUG) the new season’s point
leader, is looking to start a new win-streak after finishing third last week.
The 17-year-old Hanford sensation has already captured three main events
this season. He also leads the Passing Masters Trophy Dash point standings
by virtue of three dash wins.
After two consecutive successful but disappointing (to him)
second-place finishes at Tulare, Davey Pombo is primed and ready to move up the
one spot and garner a win this time out. The
Kerman resident is tough to beat once he gets rolling.
Chris D’Arcy, who lost his bid for victory last week when
he spun-out while leading on lap 17, will try and position himself for another
run at the top spot. Although he
didn’t end up victorious, his confidence level is at an all-time high.
Steven Williams, who led the point standing since the first
event of the season in February, is looking to regain the top spot.
After finishing fourth last weekend, despite crashing earlier in the
dash, the Merced resident trails Boespflug (BASE FLUG) by only three
points, 398 to 395. Other top
contenders include Danny Olmstead, Richard Harvey Jr., Jonathon Logan and Aaron
Chaney. With the increased purse,
SCRA officials expect upwards of 30 cars to compete, including several from the
Southern California area.
Accompanying SCRA on the program will be the Dwarf Cars of
The California Dwarf Car Racing Association.
The popular Dwarf Cars are 5/8-scaled replicas of 1928 to 1948 vintage
American coupes, sedans and trucks, powered by 4-cycle, 4-cylinder 1250 cc
maximum motorcycle engines.
Thunderbowl Raceway is located at the Tulare Fairgrounds,
Bardsley and “K” Street in Tulare. Gates
open at 5 pm with the first race starting at 7 pm.
Tickets are $14, children 6-12 half price, under six free.
