SEPTEMBER 13, 2004...Michael Lewis won the race and Jim Waters won the
war Saturday night as the USAC Valvoline Western and Port O'Call Rocky Mountain
Sprint
Car Series combined for a race at Rocky Mountain Raceways in Salt Lake City,
Utah.
Lewis led a "sweep" of the top three finishing positions for his
Western Speed Racing team as Brian McClish and Tony Hunt trailed the
Noblesville, Ind. driver at the checkered flag. Lewis passed Greg Anderson on
lap three and led the final 38 laps of the 40-lap race in his Team ASE/Snap-On
Eagle/Wesmar. Jimmy Wysong finished fourth and Anderson rounded out the
"top-five."
Waters earned his second consecutive USAC Port O'Call Rocky Mountain Sprint Car
title after finishing 11th in the series finale at the 3/8-mile paved oval in
his Lake Elsinore Hotel & Casino/Crossroads West/Port O'Call Beast/Chevy. He
finished the season with a 55-point cushion over runner-up Mike Baisch, who was
12th Saturday. The Valvoline USAC Western Sprint Car Series resumes action
October 16 at the Bullring at Las Vegas (Nev). Motor Speedway.
