(Oxnard, CA 5/17/04) Ventura Raceway returns to action this Saturday
night May 22, with a very special event. For the first time the 410 Sprint Cars
of the USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series will invade the 1/5 mile Seaside Park, Ventura
Raceway banked clay oval. All the top stars of this outstanding racing series
will be there Saturday to put on a program of oval track racing not to be
forgotten by those in attendance. As an added attraction Saturday night the VRA
360 Senior Sprints will also be racing a full program for their over 45 year old
competitors.
USAC/CRA Sprints are a new name for the old SCRA Sprints that have raced at Ventura for several years. Most of the top SCRA drivers have moved over to this new sanctioning body for the 2004 season. USAC/CRA Point leader Rip Williams is one of these drivers. Also scheduled to appear is Steve Ostling, Jeremy Sherman, all time winningest 410 driver at Ventura Mike Kirby, Ojai’s Troy Rutherford, Damion Gardner and the rest of the top drivers in this fine series. The USAC/CRA 410 Sprint Cars are the fastest racecars that come to Ventura each year. Capable of hitting speeds of nearly 90 mph on the short Ventura straight’s, the racing is nothing short of breathtaking. Also on the card for Saturday night are VRA 360 Sprint Cars Senior Division drivers. These over 45-year-old racers are putting on great shows each time they race. Point leader Bruce Douglas leads a fine field of drivers that will include 2003 Champion Ron Bach, 2002 Champion Wiley Miller and Wiley’s brother Danny Miller, who took his first ever VRA feature win last Saturday night May 15. Where else can you see a father and son, both over the age of 45 compete against each other in a racing series featuring 500 plus horsepower racing machines. VRA Seniors feature two such combinations with fathers John Richards and Ron Butler racing against their sons Curtis Richards and Brett Butler. Saturday night will be a night to remember for those in attendance. Don’t be left out. Front gates open at 4:00pm with qualifying for the USAC/CRA racers at 5:30pm. Heat races get under way shortly after the completion of qualifying. Admission for this special event is $18.00 for adults, $15.00 for Seniors and Military, Juniors with a Jr. or Senior High School Id $8.00 and kids 12 and under FREE.
