(Oxnard, CA 04/20/04) Ventura Raceway resumes
competition this Saturday night April 24 at 5pm, at Seaside Park at the Ventura
County Fairgrounds, with a full program of exciting VRA/IMCA Racing. Headlining
the night are the powerful VRA 360 Sprint Cars. They will be racing in two
divisions, the regular VRA Sprints and the over 45-year-old drivers of the
Senior Division. Also on tap will be the popular IMCA Modifieds and VRA
Modifieds. Drivers in each class will be going all out to keep their competition
behind them in the season long points race.
The VRA Sprint Cars will see a full field of 20 cars take the green flag in
their 30 lap feature. Last week’s winner Chris Wakim will be going for two in
a row against a strong field of over 30 360 sprint car drivers lead by point’s
leader Tom Stansberry, Bill Welch, three time winner in 2004 Chris Tramel and
Rob Kershaw. This high powered cars always thrill the Ventura crowd with close
exciting racing action on Ventura Raceway’s tight 1/5 mile clay oval.
Also racing on Saturday night are the over 45 year old drivers in the VRA Senior
Sprint Car Class. These drivers race the same cars as their younger counterparts
in the regular VRA 360 division. The only difference is their age. Last race
Bruce Douglas took his first ever VRA win. Tonight he goes for two in a row over
top senior stars Ron Bach, Wiley Miller, Ron Butler, Dale Harwood and others.
VRA Modifieds and IMCA Modifieds are also on the card for Saturday night. These
open wheeled stock car classes are always crowd favorites. Point’s leaders
Rick Rodarte and Mark Gallimore will try to increase their point lead over the
rest of the VRA Modifieds field, while Chris Tonoli will try to do the same in
the IMCA Modifieds. These two classes always put on a terrific program of racing
each night they compete.
Raceway gates open at 4:00pm with racing getting under way at 5:00pm with
preliminary heat races. Admission prices for Saturday night are $14.00 for
adults, $11.00 for seniors and $7.00 for juniors with a school id card. Kids 12
and under are always free at Ventura Raceway when accompanied by an adult. For
